Tomás Moulian E. is a Chilean sociologist who has investigated, as well as critiqued neoliberal capitalism as a socioeconomic model present in Chile since the end of the Pinochet regime in 1990. Moulian studied sociology at Pontifical Catholic University of Chile during 1959-63. He later continued his studies at the Pontifical Catholic University of Leuven, Belgium, during 1963-65. One of my favourite books by this author has been “El deseo de otro Chile”, where Moulian firstly describes the state of Chile as a nation. He later narrates a national political program where he recounts the aspirational future of Chile, complete with socioeconomic and political proposals, which is based on a historical marxist point of view. This book was published in 2010 and it has served as complementary material during my first year of my sociology major. Moulian is an inspiring sociologist, who is an intellectual and with his acquired knowledge about Chilean society has served the people of his country.

My favourite comfort meal is a nice warm bowl of lentils, which are a type of vegetable. I prefer my lentils to be rich in flavour, as well as creamy in texture. I start to prepare my lentils by soaking them in water for six to eight hours, preferably the night before cooking. The day after, I drain the soaked lentils and cook them in boiling water for about half an hour. Later, I drain the recently boiled lentils. When the lentils have been drained, I begin to throw in some spices and seasonings. My favourite seasonings are paprika, oregano and cumin. The lentils are ready to serve after they absorb the seasoning. Whenever I make lentils, the aroma in the kitchen reminds me of my lovely grandmother, who has always taught me about cooking. A great homemade meal, such as lentils, can always put me in a better mood.

Blog 4 - Photographs and their story: The earth will take revenge

I took these photos when I went to the beach "Los Molles" in the commune of La Ligua, Valparaíso region. I travelled with my family in last winter holidays. On vacation we always visit this place because my grandma has a house in a nearby place that is why I know this place since I was little, when it was a place that was not as intervened as today.

Little by little with my family could see how the place changed, filling with buildings near the beach built on a wetland, yes, ON A WETLAND. The greed of entrepreneurs is destroying an ecosystem. 

       

Sometimes the water is so high in the front street that you have to take other paths to cross to the beach, even if you are driving. 

                                              

I cannot explain how inhumane these events seem to me. By think only of the profits and not the consequences, the ecosystem and the population were affected.

Blog 3: Special gadget !

My special gadget is a projector. My aunt lent me for a long time. It's used to show movies and makes the experience more interesting, fun and comfortable because it's like going to the cinema but without crying babies or expensive food and you can be in piyama. :3

It is not the gadget that I use the most, but it is the only one that has brought me only positive experiences in the last time because I've seen movies with mom, sister, friends and everyone has enjoyed it just like me.

I've seen documentaries, horror movies, psychological thrillers and I hope to continue watching many films. I would like to learn more about cinema.

Blog 2: you deserve what you dream 

My mom says that when I was a child I wanted to be a vet. I don’t remember this because this dream job is very old. Then, when I was eight years I wanted to be a rockstar. When I finished school I had many ideas of I wanted to do. I couldn’t decide between sociology, law or journalism.

I chose a sociology major as my first choice because I think that from this I can get to do something more concrete against those things that I dislike about the system. Prison is an issue that has always interested me a lot, because this system is unfair and unequal. Specifically, I would like to work with children and young people who have been harmed by this.

The first semester was good for me but this semester not. I am very tired and it's hard for me stay focused so I feel like I haven't learned too much :( 

I like this subject because I have to participate and that keeps me a little more focused.
